Oklahoma Lawn Fertilization

There are many crucial times throughout the year in which your lawn is vulnerable to malnourishment, disease, insects, and weather conditions. Green and Clean Lawn Care's balanced and timely approach to lawn care makes the most of your lawn's organic growth and defense cycles to give you the greenest, healthiest-looking lawn you've ever had.

Most everyone has heard of fertilizer, but surprisingly many people don't really understand what is meant by lawn fertilization. It is a common misconception that fertilizer is food for the grass. That's not really true. Turfgrass is a very remarkable plant. Besides being one of only a few plants that thrive being cut on a regular basis, it also makes its own food! Like most plants, turfgrass actually converts the energy from sunlight into food that plant uses to grow.

So why fertilize?

When fertilizer (nitrogen, phosphorus, potash) is applied to the soil, it is converted into a liquid. This solution of chemicals is then consumed by millions of microbes that live in a healthy soil. This tiny microbes digest these chemical elements and excrete a solution that is readily absorbed through the cell walls of the turfgrass' root structure. The turfgrass' cells use this solution to build new cells throughout the entire plant, causing the plant to grow.

Those tiny microbes are the reason it is so important to have a healthy soil. Without a healthy soil, with plenty of organic matter, the microbes are not happy and go away. Without there intermediary processing of elements found in the soil, the turfgrass doesn't thrive and begins to die out. Weeds aren't quite as particular about the soil. They have the power to reach down much further, with a larger root system that can suck up what little nutrients might be there as well as any moisture present. This further exacerbates the problem.

Adding supplemental fertilization throughout the growing season keeps the soil in a good state of balance. Grasscycling also adds important organic matter back into the soil on a regular basis. Grasscycling is leaving the lawn clippings across the lawn after mowing so they will decompose naturally. Lawn clippings do not normally create thatch buildup.

Our fertilization program

We offer a balanced lawn fertilization that is applied at appropriate intervals throughout the growing season. It is important to apply just the right balance depending on the time of year. Over-fertilization can be just as bad or worse, than no fertilization.
